063. Remembering Kristina Calco: A Mother's Story of Love, Loss, and the Tragedy of Suicide
Hi My loves - this week's episode is a vulnerable and beautiful one. When I was a Freshman in high school at Portage Northern (whilst we lived in Kalamazoo, Michigan), I had a friend, who was in the grade above, she was my double's tennis partner the first year I was on the tennis team and the kindest soul. There was an instant connection and her passing broke so many of our hearts. I felt compelled to tell her story and her Mom was so gracious to give me the time to do so.
"Kristina wrote in a 7th grade journal entry: “The only reason I even bother to tell my sad sob story is that someday the public might know what a teenage girl goes through. So as you know nice guys finish last….well it might as well be nice girls finish last, too”. Tragic as our story is to tell and live each day….I feel that there are things to be learned from Kristina’s story.
–Written in the hopes that no one else might ever have to awaken to a such a blustery snowy morning as we did." By Kristina's Mom: Michelle.
